UNITY COUNCIL: 5000 STRONG!
The first Unity Council Bargaining Summit at Queen’s University was a landmark event in uniting over 5,000 workers from various unions, including CUPE locals, USW 2010, and PSAC. With over 50 dedicated representatives in attendance, the summit was a powerful step toward strengthening our collective bargaining power and addressing critical issues like pay, benefits, workload standards, job security, and intellectual property rights. This is our Plan to Win: uniting our voices, goals, and resources to strengthen the power of all workers at Queen’s. The summit focused on building solidarity and fostering a unified vision. Discussions underscored the vital role of clear communication and member engagement throughout the process. By prioritizing key proposals and coordinating our efforts, we are setting the stage to achieve transformative results and ensure that our collective voice drives meaningful change. Stay tuned for more this month!!
MORE SIGNATURES = MORE POWER
The Plan to Win is at a crucial point, where your voice can help shape our future at Queen’s University. The petition outlines our shared concerns: understaffing, low wages, and high workloads. By signing, you support the call for fair wages, manageable workloads, and adequate staffing levels, ensuring high-quality services for students. If you haven’t signed the majority petition or have questions, now is the time to act! The more workers who sign the majority petition, the stronger its impact when we deliver it to the employer. Your participation is crucial, even if your union has already met its minimum threshold target. Your signature matters. It communicates unity and strength. Together, we can make a difference!
WHY IT MATTERS
Many unions have already completed their bargaining surveys, shedding light on the profound impact of stagnant wages amid rising inflation.
1/2 reported struggling to pay their monthly bills, including rent or mortgage and heating costs.
Almost 40% are facing food security challenges,
cutting back on groceries or relying on food banks.
And a 1/4 have experienced housing insecurity or are concerned about their living situation.
Thanks to Bill 124, workers in all unions are facing these challenges, some with more hardship and precarity than others. Your colleagues deserve better. You and your family deserve better. We ALL deserve better. Together, we can secure fair wages, housing, and food for everyone. Let’s unite and fight for all.
