Over the 2024-2025 academic year, nine units of unionized workers will be in bargaining for a new contract with Queen’s university and Aramark. Bill 124 has stalled wage increases for most workers at Queen’s and take-home wages have fallen well behind inflation.

At the same time, Queen’s is claiming that they have a budget crisis, even though investment revenue is up, and managers are taking home large raises. Many unions have experienced cutbacks, layoffs, reduced hours, expanded workloads, and the disappearance of stable full-time positions.

To meet these tough challenges, union leaders have come up with a bargaining strategy that takes advantage of our greatest strength: solidarity.

The Plan to Win is a united bargaining strategy that draws on the collective strength of over 5000 workers. By sharing resources and insights, and standing firm in our commitments to each other, bargaining teams are bringing a united front to the negotiating table.

The Plan to Win is based on three principles: solidarity, cooperation, and transparency.

  • Solidarity: by actively supporting with our colleagues across campus, we prevent division and competition between groups of workers.
  • Cooperation: by cooperating on shared proposals and sharing our resources, we level the playing field and create fairness across unions.
  • Transparency: by keeping workers informed of bargaining processes and developments, we hold ourselves and the employers accountable to the community.
